G10 Law’s Land Use attorneys Louis Galuppo and Elysian Kurnik were recent participants in the “One California, One Coast” Policy Summit hosted by Smart Coast California. The first of its kind summit brought together experts in the fields of law, economics, government, planning policy, and engineering to discuss policy ideas and solutions to address Sea Level Rise and its impact on our California coastal communities.
Panelists examined the issue of Sea Level Rise from several perspectives including coastal planning at the local level, legal implications of managed retreat, economic consequences of various adaptation options, and sustainable and resilient shoreline protection.
“It was encouraging to see thought leaders, stakeholders, and policy-makers from across the state come together to begin a collective discussion on actual and projected impacts and solutions for our coastal communities at risk from rising sea levels,” said G10Law Land Use Attorney Elysian Kurnik.
“Climate change, sea level rise and the political climate are increasingly threatening coastal properties and owner’s rights to protect their property”, said Louis Galuppo, Managing Shareholder of G10 Law. “It will require a collective synergy to advance solutions and protect stakeholder interests. This summit was a great step forward toward achieving this objective.”
